Destruction:
Churetsu, the Celestial Blade of the Bayushi: This unassuming sword embodies the misdirection and deception of the Bayushi. Only those with the blood of Bayushi in their veins may wield the blade, for those that do not will burn as a celestial poison courses through their body as long as they hold it. It is a blade that can strike true, hitting an opponent in a moment of weakness cutting through their defense while making the wielder harder to hit. As long as it is held in combat the wielder will always appear to be standing five feet to the left or right of the his actual position. Should its bearer ever die the blade will magically return to Kyuden Bayushi, and in the eyes of its true bearer it takes on a dark red glow.

Itsuwari, Ancestral Katana of the Bayushi: An ancient blade dating back to the formation of the Empire itself and the first Emperor. The secrets of this blade are unknown to most and it can protect the mind of its wielder from outside influence as long as it is carried. It has the power to cut through even the hardest of hides and armor and never rusts or is found in need of repair.

Ambition: A dark and cursed blade that grows in strength as it kills. The more it kills the more blood it needs to grow in power. This kill to power ratio is exponential, a little power at first kill, then needing two more kills to grow again, then three more, and so on. The only exceptipon is if the victim is powerful in some way, especially if it is more powerful than the wielder, then it grows in power far more rapidly. As its power grows it whispers secrets of power in the mind of its wielder, secrets of ambition sending its bearer to kill greater and more dangerous beings and seizing more power for himself. It can cut through tough hide as if it was paper regardless of its strength, it just does it easier after it has fed. Its power weakens the longer it goes without feeding, but its siren call never does.

Powers/Abilities/Talents:
Bayushi may be human but he is not just human, he is a master swordsman, easily one of the best warriors in the land, human or otherwise, in terms of pure skill,, his technique is one built upon through centuries of practice by his clan. It focuses on deception and misdirection to win the fight and is known as the School of Bitter Truths. Shoju is a shrewd tactician and military leader, and through this skill he became the Lord of the north. Thanks to his wife he is slowly gaining some skill in the courts as well, and while he was always decent in this field he is slowly getting better.

Kage yakiin: Also known as Shadow Brands, these are tattoos created from the secret source of the Bayushi's power, the Shadow. As long as the tattoos are shielded from the light they increase the power and durability of the branded party. When exposed to bright light they sear and burn like fire. Shoju has two brands, one on his lower back and one of his right thigh. As a result his physical abilities are enhanced to superhuman capabilities, making him the match to some hanyou and low ranked youkai.

Attitude Check:
Loyalty, that is the defining feature of Shoju. Well, Bayushi loyalty is to be more specific, but what can one expect in a clan of ninjas, courtiers, and other less than reputable sorts. Bayushi loyalty dictates that he is loyal to his clan, for without the clan they would be slaughtered by their numerous enemies, he is Loyal to the Emperor, even in his weakened state and near constant war that ravages the land, and he is loyal to those that have proven to be loyal to him. He loves his wife, and his brother. He knows how to keep a secret, after all he is known as the Master of Secrets.

Return to the Past:
It is said that Bayushi Shoju killed his own father in order to gain his current position. Of course these words are never heard when he, his wife, or their agents are within earshot. But it is true, though not for the reason most think. The truth is far darker, and is mired in betrayal, and whose secrets have been scourged from all records to maintain internal loyalty and never let the truth be known. There are only five people still alive that know the truth, Shoju, his wife Kachiko, his brother Aramoro, The Shosuro poison master, and the one responsible for his father's fate. A spider demon whose name is still unknown.

There can be no doubt in anyone's mind that Shoju loves his wife nor that she loves him. He has watched her since she came of age and has heard a great many tales of her skill and beauty though out the courts of the lands. When he finally met her he was doubly enthralled by her beauty, and knew right there that he was going to marry her. When they finally spent the night together she saw right through his "mask" and he was unable to beguile her with his words of fancy. For the first time in his life the Great Deceiver was forced to be himself. She was his perfect match, he could rule the battle field while she ruled the courts. They married five years ago, when she was 15 and he was 32.

He took the position as Lord of the North through deception, misdirection, lies, and poison. He had up until that time been a vassal to the demented youkai that ruled there, and for ten years he made himself her greatest confidant and adviser. Then one day he manipulated her into sending a large force against an upstart lord and then his army rose to slaughter the remaining forces at the lord's castle. While this was happening an elite force of shadow demons and ninja loyal to Shoju battled and killed the forces inside the castle. Thanks to some poison he was able to weaken the Lord to the point where Shoju could confront him and strike him down with the bloodsword Ambition, as it alone would have the pure power to defeat a lord. Though now that the sword has tasted such blood it yearns for more, and after ten years it calls to Shoju to let it drink once more.

Other:
Shoju leads a clan, and within this clan there are a number of families, and each has its own role in the clan. The one thing that unifies the clan is a simple tradition, all members of clan Bayushi wear a mask, and their colors are that of black and red, their symbol is the scorpion. The families are as such, in level of importance and strength:
Bayushi- The ruling family, a family of proud Samurai and courtiers. The face of the clan.
Shosuro- The Clan's shadow, they are the ninja, poison masters, saboteurs and assassins.
Soshi- The clan's mystics, practicing traditional magic and shadow magic. They alone hold the secrets of the Shadow Brand.
Yogo- A cursed family that holds the darkest secrets of the clan and produce powerful monks in the service of the clan. They tend to Traitor's grove, where the souls of clan traitors are forever bound into trees.
Rokugo-A minor family of criminals who oversee the clan's illegal activities so that the clan can keep a clean nose publicly.
Kochako-A minor family that represents the internal affairs part of the Bayushi, as they keep the clan loyal to itself, the Empire, and the Emperor, in that order.
Nanbu- A minor family of warriors and samurai that protects the Soshi spellcasters.
Goju-The Shadow demon family in the service of the clan, bound by Yogo magics at first they now serve the clan willingly.


Sample Roleplay:
Shoju looked into the room where a thousand identical swords lay, all of them death, save one, and to Shoju's eyes it glowed with a dull red light. Churetsu, the celestial blade of his clan. Reaching for the blade he stopped for a minute to glance about the room, after all, the sword had a habit of moving about and he wished to make sure the light was not an after effect. Seizing the blade he placed it on his waist and moved out of the room and into his grand hall.

Once in his hall he took a seat as his wife to a position to his left and the Shosuro lord took one to his right. He knew his brother lurked in the shadows behind him as well. One of the men in the room bowed and addressed him, informing him of occurrence in his lands, it seemed that the demon hunter's village had been destroyed some time in the past. He would deal with the local lord for not informing him of this sooner, and it also seemed that a strange group was hunting a spider demon. His eyes narrowing ever so slightly Shoju spoke, "This interests me. Send the men out and bring them to me, unharmed. I wish to speak to them and they will be treated as guests. That is all for now. Go." With those words spoken several men and women left the hall to seek out information on this group, or risk their lord's disfavor.

Beyond the usual assortment of ninja weapons, but her best weapon is Shinjitsu. It is a magical blade of the Shosuro family and it has a habit of choosing its own bearer and it has chosen Anko. The blade is powerful and can cut like a shadow, bypassing armor leaving deep wounds with no visible injury.

Powers/Abilities/Talents:
Anko has training in the arts of the shadow ninja which are as follows:
The Shadow has no Mask- This art allows the ninja to vanish into the shadows and large crowds effortlessly.
The Shadow has no Mercy- This is the art of the silent assassination, coming with it knowledge of how to strike perfectly so that even a minor would can cause agony or death.
The Shadow has no Form- A supernatural power that strips the shadow ninja a traits such as scent, leaving them that much harder to detect.
The Shadow has no Substance- The Shadow ninja develops the ability to actually turn invisible for several minutes at a time.
The Shadow has no Soul- With a bit of meditation the shadow ninja can shed her form of physical substance allowing her to walk through walls no thicker than a single inch per minute of meditation.
The Shadow has no Name- A shadow ninja learns at this point how to quiet its true name with a bit of meditation allowing it to alter its physical form however it sees fit. For each hour they choose to shape change they must meditate for one minute.

Beyond her training as a ninja the fact that she is a Shadow Youkai gives her many powers her human family members do not. The first and most useful is the power to transform into a living shadow. The other power that of the shadow bolt, which is a corrosive bolt of pure shadow and darkness that hits with the cold of the dark and drains life from such a hit.

Attitude Check:
Anko possesses a sense of cold loyalty, going beyond what even normal Bayushi possess. She also holds up the three oaths of the Shadow Ninjas: Secrecy, Loyalty, and Duty. Her sense of self is so linked to these and regardless of her circumstances these are the what she will fall back on, and in the end it is entirely possible that her unwavering loyalty to her clan may even extend beyond death. Beyond this sense of loyalty Anko has little regard for the lives of others or personal property and generally takes some enjoyment out of causing pain to others. She is one sadistic ninja who relishes psychological torment as much as physical.

Return to the Past:
Anko Shosuro was born not born in with that name, for in truth she was born Anko Goju, for she is one of Clan Bayushi's shadow youkai, and that puts her in a clear purpose within the clan, and that role is Ninja. Like many Goju born into the clan loyalty was instilled into her from a very early age, and knowledge of the price for disloyalty and Anko took these dark lessons in loyalty to heart and they would become a driving force in her life.

When Anko came of age she did what many Goju did and entered into the Dojo of the Hidden Moon, the Bayushi clan's school for Shadow Ninjas, a task her heritage made her a natural in, though this did not mean she had any easier a time than any other and still had to go through a Dojo which had a 25 percent death rate, and that's not counting those that are lost to the darkness of the shadow brands. Though Anko was turned down for branding as most Goju have no need of it and it is even more dangerous for them than it is for humans, given their preexisting connection to the shadow.

But Anko not only survived the training but thrived in it and eventually graduated out of the school and moved on to her mission which she was just as successful in, garnering her respect and glory within the clan while remaining unknown outside it. Amoung these rewards was a husband in the lordly family of the Shosuro, which she took with honor, and though she respected her husband as any good Bayushi does he was a human and she was not, and as such, she out lived him by a century at this point. She has some half-breed kids in the clan, but pays them little mind, after all even if they die, she can always have more. And her children, and even her own life mean nothing to the greater glory of the clan.

She knows some secrets of the clan that it would like to remain secrets, the fact that she lives shows how much the clan trusts in her.

Her claws are strong, and sharp, like those of many oni and youkai and she has the strength in those claws to tear through armor and steel, and even claw deep into stone.

Powers/Abilities/Talents:
The powers of this oni are incredible and powerful, leading to its fearsome and mythic reputation. They are as follows:
Unholy flames: Kyoso is able to throw balls of black, demonic flames from its hands. This mystical flames burn through normal resistances to flame as it is a flame of the soul, burning it with the damned flames while leaving the body unharmed.
Teleportation: Kyoso has the power to will herself to any location that she knows. She can also use this power to teleport herself to anywhere that someone invokes her name.
Shapeshifting: Kyoso has the power to transform her shape into any form she feels will be more likely to achieve her goals. Her form is almost always female, though she does has a preference for a form that reminds her of her former human form.
Telekinesis: Kyoso has the power to move and manipulate objects and people with her mind, the heavy the object is the faster it will wear her out.
Regeneration: Kyoso can heal any wound that doesn't kill her out right within a matter of hours, the exception being weapons made of jade, treated crystal, holy weapons, and honorable weapons.
Cloud of Taint: Kyoso no Oni, like the other Oni Lords is able to summon up the air of Jigoku itself and release it into the area, spreading a virus of pure evil that thrives in the realm of evil, killing, twisting, and mutating all within its radius of 30 feet.
Spells: As former dark priestess Kyoso can produce a number of effects through concentration and words, though unlike a miko, whose spells come from her purity, or a dark one, whose spells come from her corruption, Kyoso calls upon the powers of Jigoku itself for power.
Create Spawn:The first and greatest of the Kyoso can create spawn, lesser versions of itself to send out into the world to act as her agents. They are considerably less powerful and lack several of Kyoso's more potent abilities, such as telekinesis and cloud of taint, the full brunt of her regeneration, as well as her spell casting powers. If the primary is killed then her power will flow into a spawn which will become the new primary.

Shikon Jewel Power: Empathy: Since gaining a fragment of the Shikon Jewel Kyoso has been able to sense the emotions of others within 100 feet, and it makes her that much more powerful in manipulating people, and she has found that her spawn created since gaining it have had this power as well.

Attitude Check:
Patience, love, hate, vengeance, destruction, misery, manipulation, and rage. These are words that can be used to describe Kyoso, and while they are accurate words to describe her, they fail to truly describe the horror that is Kyoso no Oni. While she considers herself to be a patron of love those she blesses often end up dead, or worse. She hates the wolf youkai with a burning passion and ironically that makes her an ally of them at times, as she sees it that their deaths are hers and hers alone and those that kill them instead are stealing from her, and no one steals from this oni. A subservient being, the actual Oni, lurks in Kyoso's mind, and while weaker than Kyoso, it still serves as an advisor and confidant to Kyoso

Legends of the wolf tribes tell of a horror that lurks in the land, an Oni with a grudge and the power to extract it on any wolf youkai it encounters, and really any one it meets that angers it. They call it Kyoso, and it is no mere story, and the truth is far worse than the tales that are told of it.

There are several powerful beings known as Oni Lords, and they are some of the most powerful lieutenants in Amatsu-Mikaboshi's forces. Each of them stand as a victory in Jigoku's war against all that is pure and good, and while the origins of the others is shrouded in mystery or known and documented elsewhere, the origin of Kyoso is a secret known only to a few.

Kyoso Agasha was once a promising young Miko, destined for great things, though during a chance occurrence she encountered a wolf youkai named Anzai, the son of that Wolf Tribe's leader, and she fell in love with him at first sight and she believed that he felt the same way. On an impulse Anzai arranged for the two of them to be wed. But stark reality struck hard when a rival for Anzai's love appear, the daughter of a fellow wolf tribe's chieftain, a woman by the name of Ryo. She used her skills and political connections in the wolf tribes to humiliate and ostracize the young priestess. Anzai's father broke off the engagement between Anzai and Kyoso and arranged for a marriage between the two wolf youkais. Anzai begged his father to not kill her, and so he banished her, not to return to the wolf lands under penalty of death.

Living in a tiny hovel in the wasteland resentment grew in Kyoso's heart, resentment, and madness. While enduring her banishment she began to suffer from nightmares, encouraging her to take revenge on Ryo and Anzia and all that dared to stand between her love. At first she was able to resist, but as the years of isolation and loneliness dragged on she found her willingness to resist lessening. In time she gave in, and summoned an oni from the depths of hell itself. She not only gave the oni her name, she merged with it physically. But to the oni's surprise the human's will was stronger, far stronger, strong enough to be the dominate part in the union. Even more surprising was that Kyoso had become a creature of pure evil, a willing servant to Amatsu-Mikaboshi, and as such Kyoso no Oni was born. The only thing that remained of Kyoso's former human life was a fan given to her by Anzai, and that became her convenant, and it still holds sway over her to this day.

The New Oni Lord went on a rampage through Wolf lands killing Ryo, Anzai, Anzai's father, and dozens of others before disappearing into the wild. Every now and then she would return and kill some more and then vanish again. In time Anzai's tribe and Ryo's tribe fully merged and it only served to enrage Kyoso even more and she devoted herself to their extermination. But they were not without recorse, and over time a group was created to deal with Kyoso. It would take them centuries but eventually they imprisoned Kyoso in a tomb of mystical ice, preventing her escape. The spell was linked to their bloodlines, and slowly the members of the group were killed off by the spawn of Kyoso, even if they did sacrifice themselves to do so. But when the last surviving descendant of was killed by Naraku and it ended the spell. It has taken it time, but the ice has melted and Kyoso has returned, and she is not pleased, the wolf's she swore vengeance on were dead, killed by someone else. Those wolves were hers to kill, and someone robbed her of her vengeance, someone her last surviving spawn called Naraku.

Kyoso endures to the modern age, at one point she died and was banished back to Jigoku for a time, but she managed to get herself summoned back to the mortal realm shortly after World War 2. She killed the foolish mortal quickly, and then vanished into the underbelly of the recovering nation. In time she started impersonating a student in Tokyo, enabling her to ingratiate herself on young, hormone driven boys and girls she can seducing into making deals with her. She is now a student at Kagome's high school and has something planned.

Other:
Kyoso no Oni is different then most beings in the world and that is to say that she is not actually native to it. She is a being called up from the depths of Jigoku, or hell, and as such is subject to different rules than most beings. The primary one is that if she is killed and has no spawn to jump to she will be banished back to Jigoku for a length of time before she can claw herself back to the mortal world. Due to this she is able to endure to the mortal era and it also makes her an ancient and long planning enemy. The other rules weaken her against jade and treated crystal, and mean that out there is a specific item bound to her and the person that holds it prevents her from harming him, and can command one request from her, though once used it no longer works for that person, so use it at your own risk. The object that does this for Kyoso is a decorative fan.

The version in the future does not possess the Shikon jewel shard, having lost it before her banishment. She also cannot communicate to her former self alone, she would need help of someone that can travel through the well. What she knows of those times in the past when she had a shard she will not speak of, not without a large price being paid at the very least.

Kanna carries a mirror that is the focal point of all her powers.

Powers/Abilities/Talents:
Kanna carries a mirror that can steal the souls of those reflected in it. Once a soul is trapped by her mirror, Kanna can control that person's body to carry out her bidding. However, the mirror can be overwhelmed by an especially powerful soul such as Kagome's. It can't steal souls from those who wear powerful items such as the Celestial robe. The mirror can also create a glass demon to copy the abilities of whatever it reflects, though Kanna herself suffers damage when the glass demon is wounded. She can also use the mirror to spy on people through the void, the limitations of this power are unknown.

As a "concealed incarnation" of Naraku, Kanna has no scent and no demonic aura, making her undetectable to InuYasha's senses and is also immune to demonic aura-related effects such as the Hakurei-zan barrier. Also as an incarnation of Naraku he holds her heart and she can not be destroyed as a result.

Attitude Check:
Kanna is seemingly an emotionless being, but this is no accurate as there seems to be a saddness to her that is indescribable. kanna is also extremely loyal to Naraku and is the only one of his incarnations that he actually trust and is able to give commands in his absense.

Mirror:


Return to the Past:
Kanna was the first incarnation of Naraku. She is considered to be the sister of Kagura, yet she is just as much a part of the other incarnations as well. She appears to be around 10 years of age, but as with many others, this does not always mean much.

She carries with her a magic mirror which can be used to steal the souls of the living, and then take control of their bodies. As powerful as the mirror is, it was once broken while trying to take Kagome's soul, and had to be repaired. Naraku is also able to watch things through her mirror.

Unlike Kagura, Kanna is completely loyal to Naraku, and often is responsible for giving orders to the other incarnations. She is void of all emotion and personality.
