Mid day had rolled around for Japan, the sun high in the sky on its celestial path through the heavens. That would have been all fine and well if it wasn't for the angry clouds that blotted out her rays. Amaterasu was probably glowering from her perch in the sky, her foul mood only making things worse for those below. As if the heavy rain that was falling wasn't bad enough it was also disgustingly muggy. The air was thick and humid, clothes sticking uncomfortably to ones body even if they weren't out in the weather. Mostly everybody with enough sense retreated inside by this point, not wanting to get muddy and wet.
'Most' of those people were human though. It would appear that the weather rule didn't apply to youkai, at least not to fenikkusu, especially not to a tai. However that didn't mean her mood wasn't as damp as the water that permeated her clothing and made her wings feel heavy. Tossing her mane of crimson hair over her shoulder she wrinkled her nose when it hit her back wetly. The trickling sensation of water running through her armor also made her shiver, the ghostly touch of it sliding across her skin making her break out with goose bumps.
Trudging somewhat moodily up the path that lay before her Maiko huffed. Mud squelched under her boots and stuck to them, making her grimace. She hoped that the Lord at the establishment she was on her way to visit were prepared. There was going to be a fair bit of grit on his precious wood floors when she got there. As it was she could see the Kyuden Bayushi coming into view. Relief filled her and the welcoming smoke coming out of the various chimneys promised warmth. True, she could just warm herself if she so chose. But infuriating her long time associate and friend by coming in dripping wet, not to mention muddy, was more fun.
Too impatient to walk the rest of the way the Southern Lady shortened the distance between her and her destination with a few well placed jumps. She nearly scared the hell out of the guards at the front gate when she appeared a few feet in front of them. However they were told she was coming so the quaking humans, who now smelt distinctly of fear, backed off. Giving the help heart attacks was just too fun to pass up at times. A pointed look had them opening the gates and letting her in. With a chuckle and amused grin on her lips she made her way in, moving with the ethereal grace held by her people.
Five minutes later and she was in the foyer, the maids and cleaning staff looking dispassionate. She made it all the sweeter for them by leaving muddy, dripping, foot prints in her wake. Knowing that Bayushi would hear of this and that it would annoy him Maiko waited until she was by a set of rice screens then did something that made the staff wince. Extending her wings part way she ruffled the feathers and shook them out much like a bird would after bathing. This sent water everywhere. The screens were soaked, the walls now dripping, and one of the man-servants looked particularly scandalized he was so wet.
Grinning cheekily she continued on her way, summoning her youki to do her bidding. Tendrils of ephemeral wisp rose from her person in shades of flame, wrapping around her and causing the water soaking her to evaporate. A distinct hissing noise filled the air as she dried herself out, white mist rising off of her. This continued as she wove her way through corridors with an air of familiarity, almost acting as if she owned the place. By the time she reached the room she knew the resident Lord was in, thanks to her nose, she was completely dry and looking a lot less disheveled.
After a brief announcement by one of the servants Maiko was lead into the room. Her eyes lit up with amusement and held a friendly glow, a smile tugging at the corners of her lips. "Lovely weather we're having hmm?", she commented off offhandedly while inspecting the man before her. It had been how many years since she last seen him? Last time she had visited he'd only been up to her rib cage. "You've aged well Bayushi. You look a lot like your sire." Tilting her head a bit she inspected him further and grinned. "You look older then I do now!" Was she teasing the Northern Lord? Hell yes. Would she get away with it? Probably, considering she was around when he was still in diapers and remembers him chasing after dogs when he was a youngster. Humans were so much fun to play with.
