A yelp could be heard by a few birds that sat about the lake, pecking in the grass after small bugs. They all turned they're heads, as a white and orange fox broke from the line of trees. The took to the air, and soon the small cream-colored catlike canine hit the water. He looked towards the forest as a girl screamed, and ran down the slope, into the water, a six-foot brutish blue troll-like oni after her. She waved an old and rusted katana in the air, and her voice scared all creatures from the lake. She had dark brown hair that she kept in a ponytail. She has fair skin, and brown eyes, and a few scars, but most of the bad ones were covered by her short, sleeveless kimono. She came to the edge of the lake, and turned. Her eyes were wide with fear, and she trembled horribly, but she rose the katana above her head, when suddenly a fit of coughing racked her entire body, and she dropped the thin sword to the ground, and she wrapped her thin, weak arms around her waist, and leaned down, seemingly coughing her lungs out. Her eyes began to water, and her face was tomato red. The fox squeaked as the oni's thick fingers wrapped around her neck, and he lifted her into the air. Her eyes widened, and he fingernails scrabbled at his fingers.
She whimpered, tears dripping onto his hands as she went limp, and he laughed raucously.
[[[ Hope it's okay i brought the oni in. Anyone can kill him ^^ ]]]

Atsune walked casually along the water's edge, enjoying the peaceful sunlight and scenery. Sora, her crow, flew overhead, circling the lake. She spotted a fox frolicing in the water and wondered where it came from. She was about to ask the fox, but Sora distracted her with a caw.
Atsune paused when she heard a scream and just watched for a moment as a girl and an oni appeared. Ew. How gross. Why were oni so ugly? She stood still, wondering if she should help. Sora squawked a warning at her. He was right, if she did not do anything, the oni would just come after her next.
She lifted her bow from its resting place on her back and raised it with a nocked arrow. She knew she was probably going to miss, but she loosed her arrow, anyway. There was not much strength behind it, so it only bounced off the oni's arm. But, it was enough a distraction for the oni to turn its attention to her. Atsune glared at the oni, using her pyrokinesis to set his face on fire.

Kiyoshi watched the crow, and then turned his head as he heard footsteps. Cowering in the water, he watched, terrified she may be after his pale pelt. Kiyo may have done some good things for him, but anyone would have, and she meant nothing to him, as she was constantly dragging him about.
The blue brute felt something scratch his arm, and he looked in the direction of the arrow with a menacing growl. He dropped the unconscious girl, and bounded after the other one, more to add to his collection of skeletons, he figured. His ugly face was contorted into a disgusting grin, when suddenly, his face began to burn. He screamed and yowled, covering his face with his hands, which only added to the pain.
Kiyo hit the ground, and lay still. She opened her eyes slightly, but she was too weak to do much else but think. Her head pounded, and her body ached. She heard horrible, terrorized screams, and slowly rose to a sitting position. Her eyes were wide as the demon stampeded towards her, aiming to put his flaming face out with the lake water. Her body shook, but the neglected blade of the dropped katana caught the light of the sun. She scrambled towards the weapon, knowing it was her only way to survive.
Kiyoshi watched the girl pull a stupid move like trying to attempt to help this girl who knew what she was doing, by getting closer to the big buffoon. He sweatdropped, before darting closer to the large humanoid trolllike being, and grabbed the katana blade in his maw, and racing up to the girl. She grabbed the hilt, incredulous, but the thick royal blue thigh of the oni slammed into her, and she was thrown into the water. She struggled, but then caught her bearings, stood and pulled the rusted blade above her ahead, and plunged it downward, upon the oni, who was kneeling in the water, splashing his screaming flesh with the cold water.
Kiyo really should have expected it. It was way too easy, killing an oni like this, but she was too desperate to think about her family had no clue how to keep a weapon in good condition, the fact she hadn't tested the katana, and the age of it, oh, and of course, the thick-skinned oni. So when the blade snapped right before her eyes, upon making impact with the demon, it didn't register. She only stared at the oni, who was realizing he was under attack, and the jagged edge of the katana she had treasured as her only defense.

Atsune watched, slightly amused, as the oni began to flay about in pain. Her amusement would have lasted longer if they had not been near the lake. Of course... Stupid water. But, if fire was hot enough, water would not be able to help it, for it would just evaporate.
This time, she nocked another arrow, and pulled back further on her bow. She aimed at the oni's chest, since it was the biggest area, knowing that her aim would be off. She loosed her second arrow and quickly followed behind it. The arrow sank into the oni's shoulder.
Astune ran toward the girl and grabbed her to pull her away from the oni. Concentrating, for it took more effort to set fire to something not flammable, she began to heat the water that the oni was in. In a moment it was becoming warm, then it began to steam like a hot spring, then it was boiling hot. She kept her power to the area immediately around the oni, not wanting to waste energy heating the whole lake, besides, there were fish and other water dwelling creatures to worry about.
And, just for extra measure, she also set the arrow protruding from the oni's shoulder on fire, using a little more energy so the flames quickly spread from the shaft of the arrow to the oni's skin.

Kiyoshi splashed to land, acting more like a ferret than a fox, body moving almost serpentine-ly. He sat on the bank, and watched as this newcomer, who seemed like a better master than the brunette, judging by the crow, who had the liberty to fly.
Of course, Kiyoshi couldn't fly, but if he could, he doubted he would be allowed to.
She felt pressure on her arm, and she lowered her weapon, and yes, it could be counted as such, a few inches of jagged edges still remained. It fell into the water with a quiet splash and she felt the black-haired girl tug her from the great beast, who was slowly rising from his knees. She fell to the bank, and upon seeing the horrendous oni, she crawled up the bank, horrified.
The oni's blue face was ruined. The flesh was blackened, and twisted repulsively. It's midnight blue facial hair, and bushy eyebrows were mostly singed away, small and crumbling tufts barely remaining. The skin seemed to have melted and exploded back on his face. He panted, and his huge bloodshot yellow eyes were bulging with fury. It's mouth was opened in a chilling snarl, tusks bending this way and that. He lifted a massive fist, and roared, before plunging it into the water, splitting a large rock, for affect. However, as his hand made contact with the water, his fingers became uncomfortable. The farther they dipped, the more pain he felt. As he finally removed his hand, steam took to the air all around him. He grunted in confusion, before he yowled, a sound of despair and hopelessness and above all, excruciating pain. The arrow he had ignored, something that wouldn't matter later, caught flame, and for some reason, he took comfort in the deadly beauty of the dancing flames as they took to his skin, and his legs buckled from terrible burns.
She watched, traumatized, and yet completely transfixed by the tortured monstrosity as it twisted and wriggled in pain, burning alive in it's own freshwater soup.
She shakily pushed off from the ground a few moments after the water grew still, and the splashing stopped. She still stared at the lake, and the calm of it seemed almost sickening now. She hobbled to the other girl, the one who had shot it, and who she was fairly certain controlled the fire. She felt nauseated, but she planned to search for some peppermint to help it pass.
She caught Kiyoshi in her arms as she made her way to the girl, shivering.
" Th- thank you. Was that your fire.. or should we hide from whatever caused it?"
She paled at the thought of a youkai that powerful. At least it has helped her. Or maybe it was making a soup of the monster.
That's the first oni i've ever seen. A few cat demons and dragon-things came to my vilage, but nothing that ugly. I've only heard of them in stories, and-" She cut off, and blushed with an apologetic smile for her useless rambles. "I'm Kiyo of- formerly of Sekazawa Village.

Sora flew over to Atsune to perch on her shoulder, ruffling his feathers as he settled down. He looked down at the fox curiously, tilting his head from side to side. He had never really seen a fox this up close before. He was usually flying away from them as they wanted to catch him for their next meal. At least, before Atsune intervenes and tells them that they should not eat him.
Atsune regarded the girl for a moment. What was this girl doing out here with only a rusty, and now broken, blade as protection? She had not really intended to save her in the first place. She just wanted to kill the oni. It would have come after her later, anyway. Besides, it was ugly and did not deserve to live.
"I'm Atsune," she said with her usual, cheerful smile. "And this is Sora," she added as she pointed to the crow on her shoulder. Sora lifted his head proudly as he was introduced.
"Don't worry, that was my fire," she said after a moment of hesitation. "If you want to run and hide, I'd understand." She kept her care-free smile on her face. Though, she really did not care. She was used to being made fun of, shunned, and feared.

Kiyo shook her head, smiling in relief. "No, no, it's okay, I mean, you don't look that fearsome, I mean, your just a girl.. She chuckled, because she did not see any unfair accusations in her speech, for her home was a place where women cooked and raised children, living their entire lives having no knowledge of defense, and no one had any qualms with it.
However, she realized too late that words like hers may offend, and offending an armed person, who could control fire, and kill an oni, was not a smart idea. She placed her charge on the ground, near her feet, and lifted her hands in the air, and gulped.
She didn't really want to make enemies with her first site of human, or at least, humanoid. It occurred to her that this may be a demon. Tales of humanoid Kitsune and Bakeneko came to mind, and she leaned forward, sneaking a worrisome peek at the archer's lower back, looking for a tail.
Kiyoshi stepped forward, eyes on the crow. He'd been fed on human leftovers for a year, and his hunter instinct had begun to fade without use. The glossy black feathers did not give him pangs of hunger, only prodded his curiosity.

These words did not spark any negative reaction from her. She was used to much worse Atsune blinked in curiosity, wondering why the girl was so suddenly tense.
Sora clicked his beak, watching the fox carefully. Atsune listened as Sora expressed his worries. She only thought he was paranoid. She looked at the fox and sent him a telepathic message. No little fox, play nice with the crow.
"Why don't we move away..." she suggested, the stench of burned flesh was starting to waft toward them. Atsune turned and began to walk into the forest. She paused when she felt she was far enough away and sat down on the cool earth, resting her back against a tree. Her use of pyrokinesis had exhausted her.
Sora flew into the safety of the tree, resting on a low branch. Atsune looked up to see if the girl named Kiyo had followed her.

i'm your biggest fan, i'll follow you until you love me pa-pa, paparazzi baby, there's no other superstar, you know that i'll be your pa-pa, paparazzi-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That scent of burning flesh had drawn him in, bringing him closer than he would of liked. He was like a cat, to curious for his own good. One day that was really going to get him killed. Not a bad way to die, well... maybe. He was so familiar with this smell because he'd been trained to use fire and lighting and loved it, both burned the flesh.
Yet what may have been more attractive than that was the scent of a human in the mix of it all. That was something that you never came across everyday in a place like this. Maybe of the humans were just weak creatures that tried to stand up against those engraved with demon blood rushing through their veins.
He'd gone straight past the demon, and to the place when he'd caught the scent of the human off in the forest. Purple-red hued gaze scanned the area until he rested on the odd group. He himself was of canine blood, which was quite obvious from his features; tail, claws, fangs, eyes... the ears.
Figuring he may have ended up like a threat, he jumped into the nearest tree to show himself. He landed beside Sora in the low branch, and glared at the crow for a second. He only liked one crow and that was River. Glancing back down to the group below, he smiled back down at them and waved.
"What's up?"
He was being more friendly then usual. How odd. Again though... he glared at the crow.
