Those words struck him like another sealing arrow to the heart. She should have just taken his life just then. How could she say that? Why would she say that? It was cruel, and yet all at the same time it was the harsh truth. One day someone would have had to have slapped him in the face with those words. Yet, it seemed like today Kikyou would be the one to break that barrier and do so. He didn't know what to think. His mind was scattered and his voice almost didn't work. It was so tragic.
'Why,' he thought to himself. 'Why do I have to choose?' Damn this heart and it's love. Why couldn't he have just been born a full demon. There there would be no choice to this. He would be powerful, won't have needed the Shikon no Tama, and wouldn't have met Kikyou or Kagome. He looked at her, the shock, pain, confusion, and lost emotions in his eyes. This it must have been a dream. There was no way that it could have been real if Kikyou would say such things to him. He tried to speak.
"K-Kikyou..." No words could come out of his vocals. No lyrics to be sang. He was in to much shock. What were you supposed to do when one of the people you loved told you that you had to choose to protect just one person. Told you that you could only love one person. Why couldn't time just stop? Why did there even have to be a forever? Why couldn't there just be a now? No... there was a now and he'd have to learn to live in the moment, not worry about making a choice.
Yes, he'd work his way around her words. He'd do it without saying that he loved one or the other. That was fair, wasn't it? This living in the moment would save him and bring some peace to his mind. "I have you right now, so I don't need to chose anything," he stated warmly to her, his voice like honey; so sweet. Yes. Kagome wasn't around right now. Both of them weren't there so he didn't have to choose. when he had Kikyou, he had Kikyou. When he had Kagome, he had Kagome.

As hard as it was, it was the truth. Sometimes the truth hurt, it was brutal and would tear your heart in two. Yet Kikyo understood this pain, it was a daily reminder of what she lost. There would come a time, when both Kikyo and Kagome would need him, and he would only be able to save one. That was the day that was fast approaching them, she knew this. It would be the die she would die, she knew this, and wasn't angry for it. She had come to terms with the truth.
You cant have everything you want, In life there are times when you can only have one. Isn't that how the fairytale story goes? One man, one woman living happily ever after? One dies, One lives. It wasn't hard to fathom, Kikyo was already dead. Dying again wouldn't be so bad... This time she would die with a happy heart, knowing that Inuyasha loved her as well.
Hearing her name fall off his lips made the pain in her chest increase, and she had to look away. She understood how hard it was for him, yet at the same time she wished he would understand her as well. Love was endless, but only for one. She hoped in the end he would make the right decision.
Her chocolate brown eyes turned to look upon him once again, his words made her shadow her gaze. What could one say? Hearing the words she knew her jealous heart wanted to hear, she knew what her heart wanted but it wasn't right. She couldn't bear to hurt Kagome like that. Kagome loved Inuyasha just as much as Kikyo did. IN the end, Kikyo had already chosen for them.
A soft smile crossed her face, the same one she gave him years ago "You can run from it now m'love, but soon you won't have anywhere to run. But yes, let us cherish the moment while we have it." she spoke softly, her eyes wavering slightly as she spoke. Trying to ignore her pain, her anguish and be happy.

He had come to terms that he had never wanted something like this to happen between them. Tough love brought pain and with that it brought decisions that he had to be made one day. He'd understand this the time that day would come. Though he hoped not to see it any time in the near future. Maybe he could live a life jumping back and forth from Kagome to Kikyou then Kikyou to Kagome until the day that Kagome would die of old age. Kikyou could always live off souls, right? Well that would be failed plan anyway.
"I'm not running from anything," he argued back to her. It was what he truly wanted to believe. There was no running. There were just moments in time. Maybe he could learn a thing or two from Miroku to form a way that they he could be together with both of them. No wait... he didn't want to be anything like that crazy monk so it was out of the question as well. No need for something such as that upon these times. He erased the monk from his mind, shifting his focus to the miko Kikyou again.
A moment? Was that truly all that they had left with each other? He knew very well that soon he would have to go. His luck Kagome would come back and would be looking for him back at the village. He didn't want that and yet all at the same time, he wanted to see her again. Even if he did get a 'sit' or two because she would know that he had been with Kikyou. He shuttered slightly at the thought of the pain of it. He wanted to reach up and yank those stupid prayer beads off.
"Just drop it already," he said, trying to avoid the topic again. The inu hanyou then pulled the miko back into another embrace, stronger this time but still gentle enough for her to weave her way out and so that he wouldn't harm her with that demonic strength. Looking back down into those chocolate brown eyes with his sunlit golden ones, he smiled, his eyes dancing. Without another word, he leaned back into her again and kissed her, closing his eyes as his heart raced again and the blood flowed through him. If they only had just a moment left, he wanted to make it last forever.

Sure, there would be a time when death would call for Kagome. Yet shouldn't she die with her family, in her era? Then again, Kagome and Inuyasha were destined to live a life together. Could Kikyo allow herself to see Inuyasha, feel his soft touch when Kagome was away. Would she let herself feed off the souls of the dead until Inuyasha was hers completely? No, Kikyo couldn't... as much as her heart desired to do so. She couldn't let her doom Kagome like that... Take Inuyasha for herself while his dear Kagome was gone. Could you imagine the pain Kagome would suffer to know that Inuyasha still hungered for her?
Kikyo couldn't help but to just smile at his words, Why ruin her time with him on things he would learn all to soon. He would be with one of them. He would give his everything to only one. That was customary, right? You give everything to only one person... Kikyo sighed softly to herself. Of course she was jealous, another feeling she was taught to never feel. Yet here she was, thinking of Kagome and Inuyasha together. Perhaps Kagome birthing a child. What would Kikyo do then? These thoughts would doom her, and so she forgot them as soon as she felt his arms wrap around her.
A sudden warmth engulfed her, and she felt herself letting go. It was times like this she thought it would be possible to spend forever with him. How wonderful it would to watch him grow in age and wisdom. Watch the world around them grow and change until death parted them. Could she ask him again to escape to hell with her, there they could spend eternity together. But would she damn his soul for her own selfish need? No, yet again she wouldn't allow herself to do such a thing, Not to Inuyasha nor Kagome.
In one swift second everything wrong faded, her eyes fell shut and her hands sought his face and shoulder. One hand gently slid itself to his cheek, letting it cup the soft features. The other rested on his chest, by his shoulder gripping the bloody white kimono as she pressed her own lips into his. The kiss was always shocking, the feeling that pulsed through her was both invigorating and strange. To feel like you were flying, like nothing could ever go wrong in the world. There were no Demons, no Naraku and no Jewel. There was only happiness, There was only Inuyasha. He was her everything from day one.
The very first time she saw him, she pitied him. Just as he pitied her. They both came from worlds that treated them differently, He for being only half demon and she for being a Powerful Miko sought after only for her healing abilities of the Jewel. They understood one another, and in their pain they found Love. They had something stronger then any man made sword or arrow. There was nothing this feeling couldn't conquer, but they couldn't keep this feeling forever.
In his heart she knew there was Love for Kagome, and Kikyo could not damn that Love as theirs had been. Instead, she would be with Inuyasha as much as he would allow, before she let him go. She had too. She had to Destroy Naraku once and for all... and let Peace reign on this world.

This feeling to him was almost bliss. Although of course, he couldn't take to it the same way that Kagome and Kikyou would have. He couldn't because his heart dared to fight him, dared to tell him to stop. Though his mind said that this was fine and it was the way it always should have been. It was funny how just one feeling or action could consume you, fight you, and kill you as you lost the war. He'd never win it. There was just no possible way that he could. No one allowed him to.
If only he were human again so he could give into mind instead of heart. Humans were driven off their greed and that's what he wanted. Though there was just that logical side within him that kept telling him no. It pushed back the greed and froze Kagome in his mind. The Kagome that would be shattered if she had ever seen Kikyou and InuYasha like this together again. The Kagome that would run away and go back home from the unstoppable pain. It was then that he had to pull away from the kiss, away from Kikyou unwillingly.
His ears pinned back against his lushes silvery locks of hair. Golden sunlit orbs didn't dare to look Kikyou in the eye again because he couldn't. How could he have after doing such an act? It killed him inside then. He was sure that the miko would know by now the reason as to why he dared to break their kiss. "I'm sorry," he muttered to her low under his breath. He wasn't sure if she would be able to hear him or not but maybe Kikyou had the talent to read his lips as well.
If there were just one thing that he wouldn't do juts yet that would be let go of her. He couldn't;t do it because he had to hold that love for Kikyou to him somehow. Hugging wasn't as bad as a kiss, right? Well maybe it still would have been if Kagome did see them but she'd have to get over it at some point. There were many times that he had held the girl in his arms. Maybe once or twice that he had kissed her. So that left them all on a fair level.
What would he do if the day truly did come that both Kikyou and Kagome were in danger. Which one would he save? Would he save Kikyou because she was his first love? Would he leave her so she could maybe rest in peace? Would he save Kagome because of their growing relationship that brought them closer and closer together everyday? Would he allow Kagome to die just so he could have Kikyou? It wasn't like they could all die together at the same time. He wouldn't let one of them die without him there with them then.
Then it boiled down to how there was just one of him and two of them. To bad he couldn't make clone of himself. From the corner of his eyes InuYasha looked back down at her, to see her reaction. He wasn't sure what to expect. Kikyou was good at acting and yet all at the same time he wouldn't know the impact that it may or may have not had on her. Oh these times were so hard on him even without having to deal with the Shikon no Tama and Naraku. Life was never fair.

In one swift instant, just as quickly as it started, it ended. His lips pulled from her's, and she felt cold air replace the warmth. Her eyes flipped open and her gaze hardened as it locked onto him. How could she have ler herself become so lost in the lie? How could she blieve that this was it, this was how it was supposed to be.
Anger replaced the love in her eyes, though she kept her features soft. As normal Kikyo recoiled back into her shell, letting emtion pull itself back into her inner self. This was how it was going to end, Just like this. She knew the reason he whispered his apology, but it didn't help the searing pain that replaced the burning desire for him. Like a flick of a switch, she pulled herself out of his grasp.
Letting her hands gently grip his red Kimono shirt, she pulled it off her shoulders and placed it in his lap. The back of her kimono was scorched black, and her pale flesh lay exposed un marked and beautifully toned. "It's alright Inuyasha." she pulled away from him, letting her emotionless gaze lock onto him. It was all to clear now the road he wished to take, and she could not be angry with him for that decision.
Slowly she got to her feet, her brown gaze swifted averted from his. "I must go now Inuyasha." her voice was cold again, no longer was she sweet like earlier. Her emotions locked themselves away deep in her heart, Only the Inuyasha she'd known would know the real her, The one she loved more then anything else in this world. The one that stole her heart, and would never give it back.

When she had pulled away from him so quickly, he felt that same arrow piece him in the heart again. He wanted to reach up and just rip his heart out to kill off the burn that flushed through his flesh. Yet instead, Kikyou had just given him back the top piece of the robe of the fire rat. He looked back at her this time, barely daring to meet her eyes to see that cold look again. Similar to that look that she had given him the day that she thought an arrow through his heart. This time he didn't find peace in it though.
Then she said that she had to go now. He'd ruined everything again, hadn't he. "I understand," he muttered back to her. His expression hadn't changed much. It was still pained because he couldn't put up that barrier around Kikyou the way that she did to him. The inu hanyou slowly then put the red top of his kimono on. Oh this wouldn't help their parting at all for him. Her scent was all over it. He was sure that little annoyance Shippou would say something about Kikyou when he went back to the village again, if Kagome were there.
So this is how it would end. They'd be on bad terms again because fate wouldn't allow them to love each other ever again. Just for a certain length of time and then they would have to face the harsh reality. He slowly rose back to his feet, and reached out a clawed hand as an offer to help Kikyou get back up. It was the least that he could do even though he knew that it wouldn't help much. "I'm sure everyone's looking for me anyway," he said, trying to give himself an excuse to have to go as well.

Pain was a constant reminder, a constant threat that seeked to take her over. Yet with her constant training the powerful Miko had learned to hide it well. The pain sank deep into the pit of her brain, Only letting the cold emotionless gaze returned to her eyes, The love they held for Inuyasha faded from them. Though deep inside she felt the pain of leaving him, and no fight coming from his mouth.
Watching as he pulled the Red Kimono back onto his frame, she sat there. Staring, waiting to hear him say something.. Like stay Kikyo. Don't leave. But he didn't say anything, Only a simple "I understand" though it hurt her for him to be alright with her leaving, she didn't show it. Instead she reached down and placed a single finger across her bow. Before her gaze fell on the clawed hand outstretched to her. For a single instant she thought maybe he wanted her to stay, but slowly she was pulled to her feet instead.
She didn't say a word, not one. What could she say? There was nothing they could say, They both knew the hard truth and they both had to face it eventually. Simply she turned now, letting her hard gaze fall on the forest up ahead, and soon made her way in it's direction. The pain tried to seep through her eyes, but she held it in. She wouldn't dare let a single tear fall, not yet anyways.
Two single soul collectors fluttered her direction, dropping a soul her direction when they were close enough. Outstretching a single hand, one landed on her pale flesh and she couldn't help but let a small smile touch her lips. Though the pain still trickled in her eyes. As her body soaked up the souls, something started to happen. Where her flesh had been scorched by the Demons flames suddenly turned back to it's healthy color. The fabric on her Kimono started to regenerate, until her shirt was once again complete. Her frame was healed, and full of life once again.
She turned, with a sad look to gaze over her shoulder at Inuyasha. A soft smile twisted the corners of her lips as she took in his Golden eyes. A single tear rolled down her cheek, before the Darkness of the Forest engulfed her and she disappeared. Her last look both held Love, and Pain... All for her beloved Inuyasha.
